Accelerating Energy Smart
Solutions for Agriculture Transformation

Window 4, Accelerating Energy-Smart Solutions for Agriculture Transformation, aims to catalyze private sector innovation at the nexus of energy and agriculture by supporting scalable, climate- smart energy solutions that enhance agricultural productivity, reduce post-harvest losses, and improve rural livelihoods. This window seeks to address gaps in access to reliable electricity in rural communities which are currently limiting opportunities for irrigation, processing and cold storage systems. Thus, the window aims to support market ready innovations that will reduce dependence on fossil fuels and unsustainable biomass in agricultural production and processing.

The window promotes the deployment of cleaner, more efficient energy solutions-such as solar-powered irrigation systems, biodigesters, solar dries and off-grid cold storage that can drive the inclusive growth across the agriculture value chain. The main objective of this window is to enable agribusinesses, particularly those serving or owned by smallholder farmers, to become more resilient, efficient and competitive. By fostering partnerships between energy innovators and agricultural enterprises, the window will contribute to reduced greenhouse gas emissions, improved food security, and creation of green jobs in rural areas. Under this window private sector companies are being challenged to propose commercially viable, scalable solutions that address energy constraints across the agriculture value chain. Proposed solutions should contribute to increased productivity, resilience, and sustainability within Malawi’s agricultural sector.
