Discover the impactful projects supported by GETF on this page, where we highlight the innovative initiatives funded through our various windows. These projects focus on advancing clean energy and fuel-efficient solutions, contributing to sustainable development in Malawi.
GETF provides matching grants and on-demand technical assistance to projects that invest in alternative energy sources and fuel-efficient solutions tailored to urban and peri-urban households. These initiatives are designed to be affordable, accessible, and acceptable, with a strong emphasis on creating positive social and environmental impacts.
Lead applicants and their collaborators must propose projects that embrace the Triple-A Paradigm: Affordability, Accessibility, and Acceptability, while tackling challenges related to marketing, distribution, and adoption. By addressing these key areas, the funded projects aim to improve energy access and support long-term benefits for communities in Malawi.

Supamoto
SupaMoto is a pioneering company in peri-urban Malawi, offering a sustainable and scalable cooking solution that helps users save up to 50% compared to charcoal. The project utilizes locally produced waste biomass pellets in micro-gasification stoves, providing a modern, eco-friendly cooking alternative. The SupaMoto stove, developed by ECS, is highly efficient and achieves near Tier-5 performance in emissions and efficiency. It enables precise heat control, resulting in up to 30% fuel savings compared to other biomass stoves.
Lumbani Enterprise
Located in the heart of Mzuzu, Lumbani Enterprises is addressing this challenge by providing a sustainable alternative. Since 2020, the company has specialized in producing eco-friendly charcoal from rubber trees sourced from the Vizara plantation, promoting responsible energy use while reducing the environmental impact of traditional charcoal production.
Gasman
In Malawi, the reliance on firewood and charcoal as the primary cooking and heating fuels is pervasive, with nearly all households (97%) depending on them. Despite the limited development of alternative fuel sources, it is projected that firewood and charcoal will continue to play a significant role in Malawi's energy mix for several decades.
E-Nyasa Solar and Gas Limited
E Nyasa Solar and Gas Limited was established in 2019 to provide high-quality renewable energy products and services to individuals and organisations in Malawi. They are experts in installing solar systems, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and electrical fields for residential, commercial and industrial purposes.
