Bluewaves Energies Ltd

Bluewaves Project Summary

Bluewaves Energies Ltd, established in 2005, is a distributor of both motor vehicle fuels and LPG. The company operates two fuel filling stations in Lilongwe and Nkhota-kota. In 2024, Bluewaves Energies sold an average of 7.6 tons of LPG per month. With a GETF grant funding from the GETF grant, the company is investing in an innovative LPG distribution approach through setting up skid filling stations (mini-depots) in targeted locations in Lilongwe city in order to improve accessibility by reducing the distance households cover to refill their cylinders. The company plans to install at least 3 LPG Skid Filling Stations in several strategic locations across Lilongwe City. Using the GETF grant, the company also aims to procure a 5-ton Bobtail Gas Tanker Truck, 6 kg and 9 kg cylinders, a light duty delivery vehicle and two tricycles mostly for use in door-to-door services to help enhance LPG access among urban and peri-urban households. The company’s GETF project addresses accessibility and acceptability of LPG among Lilongwe residents.
Impact
The project is anticipated to create 25 new jobs, provide clean cooking solutions to 3,000 low-income households who will be able to access 200 tons of LPG annually, and increase income by at least 20% for 100 households.
The key project components include the following:
Procurement, installation, and commissioning of 5 skid filling stations in specifically chosen sites in Lilongwe City
Procurement and distribution of LPG cylinders of assorted sizes
Procurement of a 5,000 CC mobile tanker truck for gas distribution
Procurement of a light-duty truck
Procurement of a tricycle for door-to-door delivery of LPG cylinders
Setting up of LPG refill stations
