Grants and technical support now available for businesses accelerating clean energy innovation across agricultural value chains.
The Green Economic Transition Facility (GETF) has opened applications for Window 3 Round 1, inviting private sector companies to submit innovative solutions that accelerate energy-smart technologies for agricultural transformation in Malawi.
The funding window targets businesses developing solutions that improve agricultural productivity while promoting environmental sustainability. Through the call, GETF will provide matching grants ranging from US$40,000 to US$300,000, alongside on-demand technical assistance of up to US$35,000 to help companies scale viable green innovations.
GETF is Malawi’s flagship green financing facility managed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with Landell Mills International. The facility is supported by a consortium of development partners including the Embassy of Ireland in Malawi, KfW Development Bank through German Development Cooperation, and the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Malawi.
Focus on Energy-Smart Agriculture
Window 3 Round 1 focuses on solutions that integrate renewable energy and efficient technologies into agricultural value chains. Eligible proposals must address challenges related to energy-smart agricultural systems and may include innovations such as:
Solar-powered irrigation systems for smallholder farmers
Biodigesters and biogas technologies that convert agricultural waste into energy
Energy-efficient cold storage and agro-processing solutions
Decentralized renewable energy systems for rural agri-processing and irrigation
Hybrid energy systems combined with digital management tools
Mobile or modular energy units supporting agricultural value chains
Climate-smart logistics and mechanization solutions
Integrated aquaponics and hydroponics systems
These technologies are expected to help reduce post-harvest losses, improve energy access in rural areas, and increase productivity across Malawi’s agricultural sector.
Who Can Apply
Applications are open to registered private sector companies, including small and medium enterprises, operating in or willing to invest in projects implemented in Malawi. Applicants must demonstrate sound financial performance and provide at least 30 percent matching funding toward the proposed project.
Projects should also demonstrate strong environmental and social impact, including job creation, improved incomes for low-income communities, and contributions to sustainable development goals.
Application Process
Interested companies must first submit concept notes through the GETF online portal. Shortlisted applicants will then undergo a due diligence process before being invited to submit detailed proposals for final evaluation.
The deadline for submissions is 30 April 2026, and applications are free of charge.
