'Accelerating Green Business Solutions'

This is a call for Expressions of Interest (EoI) from Business Development Service (BDS) providers to be prequalified under the Green Economic Transition Facility (GETF) Technical Assistant Experts List.

The prequalified BDS providers will join a pre-vetted pool of experts for GETF matching grant and technical assistance management facility. The shortlisted experts will work with game changing Green Business Solutions in Malawi.

The GETF is a competitive and transparent business support facility partnering with commercially driven organisations willing to invest and/or diversify into green business solutions.

The GETF Window 1 Round 1 of the facility, ‘Accelerating Alternative Sources of Energy and Fuel-Efficient Solutions’, which is supported by the Republic of Ireland and UNDP, targets companies with an appetite to assist households in urban and peri-urban centers of Malawi transition into adopting alternative energy and fuel-efficient solutions. The Round, which was launched on May 26, 2023, aims to drive green investments which would help increase access and use of green energy solutions, reduce reliance on illegal charcoal which would eventually result in decreased deforestation.

The GETF is a matching grant and technical assistance (TA) support (on-demand) financing facility focused on encouraging private sector companies to address the following challenges:

  • Devising sustainable new business solutions and technologies for the production of alternative sources of energy as a substitute for illegal charcoal and firewood consumption for cooking and heating purposes targeting urban and peri-urban consumers that are overall affordable;

  • Bringing to scale existing business models proven to be viable but challenged by lack of funding;

  • Devising innovative distribution and logistics channels to penetrate the urban and peri-urban lower-tiered consumer bracket; and

  • Supporting behavioral change through communication, awareness and information.

It is with the above background information that the GETF project management unit (PMU) invites eligible BDS providers to submit EoIs to become part of a pool of pre-vetted service providers to deliver technical assistance under Window 1 Round 1 of the GETF. The prequalified service providers will be engaged on an as-needed basis.
