Definitions and Applications

Circular Library

Closed-cycle production methods, e.g. aquaponic

Means that the materials used in production can be reused. Closing the loop entails that any post-consumer waste is recollected and reused to start the process all over again. In this method, natural resources are conserved, which is a huge win for the environment

Bio-fertilizers e.g. Inoculant

It's a substance that contains microbes, which helps in promoting the growth of plants and trees by increasing the supply of essential nutrients to the plants.

Waste management

Management of waste intended to reduce adverse effects of waste on human health, the environment, planetary resources and aesthetics

Climate smart technologies

These are technologies employed to transmit data from agriculture through ICT-based platforms.

Precision agriculture using sensors and data analytics to monitor and apply resource input

These are highly controlled, accurate, and optimized agricultural production techniques which facilitates more efficient resource utilization, better yield, and reduced environmental impact, all at the same time. This farming practice involves the implementation of modern information and communication technologies (ICT).

Bio-energy e.g. Biogas

Source of energy from the organic material that makes up plants, known as biomass.

Forestry friendly products e.g. bee keeping, coffee production, macadamia production, etc

Products made with materials from well-managed forests and/or recycled sources.

Climate smart agriculture

Means capturing data and interpreting them using computing technologies to make farm operations more predictable and efficient.

Agro-ecology and agro-forestry

Agroecology promotes farming practices that; Mitigate climate change - reducing emissions, recycling resources and prioritising local supply chains. Agroforestry is a particular subtype of agroecology, a technique that integrates the systems of woodlands, agriculture, and livestock to create climate-resilient management of land.

Green houses

Structure which allows people to regulate climatic conditions, such as temperature and humidity.

Production of organically produced Certified products,

Food products containing organic and locally grown ingredients, free-range meats, and vegan, gluten-free, and paleo meal options, appeal to nature lovers and health, these minimize the impact on the environment by avoiding plastic and paper goods as much as possible and composting food waste.

Energy efficient solutions

Saving energy but keeping the same level of service
