265 Energy Limited is a fast-growing supplier of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and solar products in Malawi. Established in 2018, the company’s name reflects its roots, incorporating Malawi’s country code, +265, into its identity.

265 Energy Limited has made remarkable progress in the energy sector by introducing alternative energy solutions, primarily LPG and solar energy systems, to reduce the country’s dependence on traditional biomass fuels.

It has a well-established supply network of filling plants and depots strategically located in Lilongwe and Blantyre. The company also has a fleet of specialised vehicles for gas transportation.

Since its formation, 265 Energy Limited has developed a deep understanding of the gas market in Malawi and has established a strong reputation for reliable and quality supply.

The driving force behind 265 Energy Limited’s formation was the recognition of an urgent need for alternative energy solutions in Malawi. The country’s dependence on firewood and charcoal for cooking has had devastating environmental consequences, including deforestation and environmental degradation.

The firm’s dedication to sustainable energy sources led to its receipt of a performance-based grant from USAID and UKAID in 2021. The funding facilitated the procurement of cost-effective gas cylinders from the manufacturer for 265 Energy in Malawi. As a result of this grant, 265 Energy launched the most economical and dependable 3kg gas cylinders, significantly transforming the energy market.

265 Energy managed to sell more than 2,000 3kg cylinders in just three months, driving consumer preferences away from biomass to gas.

Through the Green Economic Transition Facility (GETF), 265 Energy’s 3kg Cylinder LPG distribution and scaling up business project aims to address the challenge of using unclean sources of energy, such as charcoal and firewood, by providing a cleaner, safe, and efficient alternative for cooking and heating to over 5,000 new households.

The project aims to scale up the supply of 3kg LPG gas cylinders to low-income households, microbusinesses, and other customers in urban and peri-urban areas of Mzuzu, Blantyre and Lilongwe. By offering affordable and reliable 3kg LPG cylinders, 265 Energy seeks to promote the use of clean energy and reduce the negative impact of traditional fuels on health, environment, and economy.

Through the project, 265 Energy Limited will procure 3kg LPG cylinders and accessories and the purchase and installation of a skid tank in Mzuzu.
